Jack Callahan is way cooler than you could ever hope to be. At least, that is what Jack Callahan would say if you asked. In his mind, he is the cat's meow, the bee's knees, and all of those other superlative expressions. While most people who think they are as cool as Jack Callahan thinks he is are not really that cool, Jack is pretty much everything he thinks he is. He's an outgoing kind of guy and makes friends quite easily. People have always been drawn to his energy, which is good, because if Jack wasn't surrounded by a crowd of people at all times, he'd be ridiculously bored. He's not the type of person that hates to be alone simply because he feels unwanted, but he hates to be alone because if there is no one there for him to talk at, he can't really find anything to do. He can be super creative when it comes to finding activities to do with other people, but when left to his own devices, he is startlingly boring.
Fortunately, he has enough friends that being bored doesn't happen often. He has a great sense of humor and his lack of seriousness about anything makes it easy for him to brush any sort of conflict off like it was nothing. The fact that he takes nothing seriously could probably irk the more straight laced of people, but Jack prides himself in it. It makes him adept at cheering other people up just by being near them. Where most people might have qualms with approaching random strangers and striking up a conversation, Jack has none and frequently finds that his best conversations come from those he has yet to converse with. He loves meeting new people and trying new things, what with the way he gets bored easily and such.
With his thirst for adventure and new things, he can be a tad bit on the reckless side. He doesn't often think before he acts, unless absolutely necessary [or unless he can't act instantly], but even if he did, he probably wouldn't come to any different conclusions. Fun is always worth the risk, right? And if it isn't, then the experience is. Obviously. Likewise, he can be very mischeivous and if there is trouble afoot, it is likely that he is at the center of it. Fortunately, Jack is a very smooth talker and a charming fellow, so he can almost always talk his and any cohorts' way out of trouble. Luckily for him, he's such a nice guy.
Of course, while he is most definitely perfect in every way [obviously], Jack does have a few downpoints, as with any person. Naturally, he is very conceited and does often think that he can do things that he most definitely cannot, which sometimes can really be a bad thing when that thing is, oh, schoolwork. Or leaping from something too tall. Jack is very smart, but his common sense is very low. He often gets caught up in the whirlwind that is himself and needs someone to anchor him down. He has been known to spiral out of control before and, despite his carefreeness, when he thinks about it, the fact that it could happen again does scare him. Really, he'd prefer not to ruin his life.
Strengths: Optimism, superfriendliness, enthusiasm.
Weaknesses: Lack of focus, takes nothing seriously, flaky.

Jack was born in Levittown, Pennsylvania, the first child of John and Angela Callahan. They had never wanted too many children, what with the family business, but they were both so delighted with Jack that that thought quickly fled their mind. About a year later, Angela was pregnant again and nine months after that, Jack was joined by his sister Elise. It was a hassle taking care of two small children at once, especially with the family business, but John and Angela handled it beautifully. Both children were enrolled in a wonderful daycare, which was where everyone learned that Jack had a way of rallying people to his cause [which was usually friendship].
While no one in preschool really dislikes another preschooler, everyone seemed to take a great liking to Jack. He always had people to share with and whatnot and that sort of skill followed him into his later life. When he was five and started kindergarten, his second sister was born. John and Angela, though delighted at their children and prosperity and such, decided that three kids was plenty and so, no more siblings for Jack.
He and Caroline and Elise went through life like any normal children. They lived with their parents, they went to school, their parents worked, etc. When they turned twelve, each child was expected to start working in the family business--an Italian restaurant. Everything was going quite well until, on Jack's 13th birthday, Angela announced that she was again pregnant. This came as a shock to everyone since, as far as they were concerned, no more children were being concieved by the Callahan adults. But, despite this unexpected obstacle thrown at them, everyone had to soldier on and, when Hannah was born nine months later, a happier celebration was not had anywhere.
Unfortunately, the presence of a fourth child put a large strain on the entire family, and no one felt it more than Jack. Since Angela had to be home, taking care of the baby, Jack had to pick up her slack in the restaurant, being the oldest in the family. Elise tried to help, but she was too young and it just didn't work out for her. Unfortunately, this was at the start of Jack's first year of highschool. He never thought that highschool would be any different from middle school, but he was so, so wrong. Everything was harder and everyone expected more. But that didn't stop Jack and, soon, he was the class clown again; the most popular guy in school.
But having lots of friends and social engagements plus working in a restaurant almost full time took its toll on Jack's schoolwork. He never made it a habit of caring, though, and he just couldn't bring himself to, even then. Which was a problem, since it was impossible for him to advance to the next grade when he was failing five of his seven classes. By the time summer rolled around, he was still a ninth grader, and it looked like things would stay that way if he didn't buckle down. But what did it matter? Everyone loved him, right?
Fortunately, his best friend at the time loved him enough that he convinced him to sign up for summer school. When he couldn't fit enough actual classes in, they turned to the internet for the remaining two. And together, for the entire summer, they worked toward getting him into tenth grade. Luckily, he made it and then for the rest of tenth, mananged to pass. His parents cut down on his hours at the restaurant and, instead of picking up slack there, Jack picked up the babysitting slack. He found that caring for a child was much more fun than waiting tables or counting money [something he had never been good at], despite the fact that it took a lot of responsibility and effort, and so was happy with this predicament.
The problem with babysitting, however, is that Jack had a hard time focusing. This had always been an issue for him and his best friend started to speculate various learning disorders, namely ADHD. Jack was never diagnosed, because his parents thought that ADHD was a made up disease to get the parents of small children to pay more money in medication. It was obvious to plenty people, however, that Jack had it and it affected his life.
Somehow, he graduated highschool. Not at the top of his class, by any means, but he had a 3.0 by the end and, for that, he and his family were proud. They were even more proud when they got his acceptance letter to the prestigious artschool for which he'd auditioned. After that, it was off to Rhode Island. Jack missed his family, since he'd never been away from them, but he was ready to be awesome in another state.| A P P E A R A N C E |
Jack's a pretty big guy, in all senses of the word. As befits his huge personality, he stands at a whopping six foot four and his doctors think that he has yet to finish growing. And he's not too skinny, either. Made of stronger stuff than those other flimsy boys, Jack has got a lot of muscle built up from doing obviously cool things, like surfing and biking and...various other manly activities in which he chooses to participate. And also working. He moves confidently, fairly graceful for a guy, and always walks...assuredly.
Fashion is not very high on Jack's list of priorities, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't dress well. Anyone who knows anything about clothes won't be too pleased with his choices, but he still looks good in them. Being a jeans-and-tee-shirt kinda guy with not too much money, he shops at the normal type places; department stores, outlets, etc. So his clothes aren't exactly expensive, but they are clean cut and nice.
There are open people and closed people and, just by looking at Jack's face, you can tell that he is an open person. There is always a smile, be it rogueish or welcoming or sarcastic, on his face and his chocolate eyes twinkle. His hair is short [for practical reasons, obviously] and spiky, but not gelled to lethal proportions and it is not quite brown, but not quite blonde. More of a golden color.
