The library. It was Bianca's mortal enemy in building form. If anything could embody the smelly, unfashionable girls that Bianca spent so much energy trying to avoid or fix, it was this library, with its seemingly disorganized shelves and back sections with old, dusty books. It wouldn't be so bad if it looked a bit snazzier. Perhaps if the librarians and school administration added some color and softer lighting. If it looked like the libraries in movies, Bianca would not have such a problem with it.
Unfortunately, there was no library that she could think of that looked like the picturesque ones in films and she was stuck with this decorative failure. She had barely made it past the doorway before she had to pause and wrinkle her nose. Could they really not afford some nice drapes or wall accents? For an arts school, this place was distinctly un-artsy.
Bianca needed to put her differences with the library aside, however. She had a project for one of her classes and the professor had some ridiculous rule that they had to use at least three sources from the library instead of the internet. It was even more stupid because the school library had their own resource library on the internet. She could have done all this research lying on her pastel pink duvet, with her soft-lit room enhanced by the sunlight filtering in through her tasteful drapery.
There was no such tasteful drapery in this library. She had intended to just grab her books and check out so that she could read them on her own, but was even more horrified when, after asking the library assistant where to find her section, he informed her that it was on the top floor and she couldn't remove those books from the library. What sort of library had books that couldn't be removed? It was an outrage.
She didn't want to do her research right this second, for that matter. She was wearing her oufit for tonight's party and didn't have any of her notebooks or her laptop. She could have left and come back, but it had taken so much effort and self-motivating to come to the library once, it was unlikely she would ever come back. Which meant that it was her duty, in the realm of her project and all of the academic achievements she was known for, to do her research right now. She had to blitz through it, which shouldn't be a problem, except that she would have to use one of the library's computers.
When she made it to the top floor, she was glad to see some electronics. It was one comforting thing. The discomfiting thing, however, was that there was not a soul up there. Bianca was certain that there were various rodents and bugs, but there certainly were no humans. Oh well. She'd have to do this quickly, then.
