Being back in a school-like setting was a bit weird for Ilyana, but admittedly it was nothing at all like high school, so she couldn't quite compare the two. Either way, the knowledge that she would be back in classes and having to do this and that was definitely not something that she was particularly looking forward to. She'd grown to be quite used to her life in Australia. Even though she'd had a job, it was so laid back that it mostly just felt like she was hanging out the entire day. Not to mention, she had literally spent nearly every moment of the last two years her life with the sand of the beaches between her toes. Compared to that, everything at Meringue Mountain was absolutely different and it would take more than just a few short days to get used to the new atmosphere.
Although she was fully aware that she probably would look like a complete idiot if she attempted to leave her dormitory, there was no way Ilyana was going to just sit around and do nothing. So what if she got lost a few times trying to find her way around the campus? That's what all the freshmen were supposed to do, right? Though, she probably was one of the few freshmen that weren't straight out of high school, so she probably would look a tad more foolish because of her age. Not much that could be done about that, however, until she had spent more time around the campus and managed to get a mental map of the place. It wasn't like it was particularly big, but it was big enough for Ilyana to know full well that she had no idea how to find what she was looking for. That wasn't going to stop her though, she needed the outside.
Ruffling around through her bags, Ilyana grabbed a soccer ball from underneath a pile of clothes to take with her. Her general goal was to find the fields so that she could get some exercise in or something, but she'd settle for just roaming around the campus if she couldn't find exactly what she was looking for. Besides, there was a decent enough chance that she would run into someone that did know what they were looking for. Ilyana was talkative enough and definitely didn't have a problem with going up to people and starting up conversations, so she was rather confident that she would come across someone that she could subtly get some information from. Certainly there were some cool people out there that she could get to know, at any rate. The whole getting to know new people thing was definitely something that Ilyana was looking forward to and she for sure intended to take full advantage of the new campus and all the people in it.
Her soccer ball underneath one arm, Ilyana left from her dormitory to start on her exploration of the campus. She was familiar enough with the building she was set to live in to get out of it alright, which she liked to think of as a win. However, as soon as she was outside, she pretty much had no idea where, exactly, she wanted to go. Deciding that it wasn't worth it to just sit around and wait for someone that looked inviting, Ilyana started off towards the center of campus. From there, she figured she could find the fields or well, something. Just outside of the building was a rather long stretch of grass which, all things considered, was good enough to kick the soccer ball around. It wasn't exactly what she had been aiming for, but at least she wouldn't look like a complete doofus wandering around and it was close enough.
Letting the ball drop to the ground, Ilyana started to kick it forwards, more just walking along and dribbling the ball than anything. There were too many people milling about to really exercise there, which was too bad, but than again that did mean that she was much more likely to run into someone interesting. She'd met a few decent enough people so far, but she'd been too busy settling in to really make any friends as of yet. When she started up with classes, she figured she'd meet way more people than she had up to that point.Ily let the soccer ball roll a bit further forward, chasing after it with a bit of a hop, all the while keeping her eyes attentive just in case someone particularly interesting came along.

Jack had never been away from his family before, but he was taking to the freedom like a fish to water. In the few days he'd been here, he'd already made plenty of friends, signed up to rush a fraternity, and been out of his dorm every single night. He'd yet to attend any parties, but that was definitely on the docket for next weekend. By then, he hoped to have hundreds of new friends from the fraternity he was now rushing and any other of the Greek organizations he would be socializing with. He was also certain that he would make friends in his classes, since he talked to everyone. Always.
He certainly did not know enough people yet. Sure, he had someone to hang out with every night because his roommate was around, but his roommate wasn't around as much during the day, since he was part of some organization or another. Jack had tried to pay attention when they were sharing life stories, he really had, but that hadn't worked out so much for him. Thus, while he was all set for his nighttime activities, he had almost nothing to do during the day. He could have stayed in his dorm and got some reading or something done, but he was far too fidgety and energetic for that.
He'd barely been awake for ten minutes before he was up and ready to leave. Jack was a morning person and always had been. Of course, he was also a night person, so long as it was nothing ridiculous like four AM. In general, Jack was just an energetic person and could not spend a long time in bed or lazing around no matter how hard he tried. His roommate had still been asleep when he'd left, but he'd noticed that his roommate was much lazier than he was on the first day, so he wasn't all too surprised. He'd have woken him up, but that hadn't turned out well the first time he'd wanted a breakfast buddy, so he left him alone.
Breakfast was convenient, because it was something to do as well as all-you-can-eat, two of Jack's favorite things. Unfortunately, he could only really occupy himself at the dining hall for so long, since most people seemed to want to forego breakfast in favor of sleep, despite the fact that it was the most delicious and important meal of the day. He quickly found himself driven to leave, after consuming a waffle, three scoops of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and some toast. He took a cup of hot chocolate with him, despite the fact that it was still summer and not exactly hot chocolate weather. He couldn't pass up the free to-go cup that one of the chefs had slipped him, after all.
Now that he was out and done with breakfast, however, he wasn't entirely sure what to do. He had already figured out that trying to be proactive and using a map to figure out where his classes were was the most boring thing on the planet and had abandoned that attempt a few days ago. He knew where all of the important things were, like the stadium, his future frat house, his dorm, and the dining hall. That was really all that mattered, since he was sure that he could either find his way around on the first day of classes or find someone friendly and experienced in the ways of collegiate navigation. He could even, he was sure, find some sort of GPS route on his phone.
It didn't seem like he had much of a choice, though, at this point. There wasn't much someone could do by themselves on campus but explore, so he supposed that it was an acceptable activity. After all, exploring could be cool. Spies explored. Indiana Jones explored. And if he brought his schedule along, then he would just be doing productive exploring. With this plan in mind, he started toward Sandels Green and his dorm. This was a bad idea. As he passed attractive girls tanning, people lying down and reading, groups tossing footballs, he really just wanted to stay outside and play. Normally, he would have just joined a game and made friends with everyone playing, but there were just so many to choose from that he was unsure of what to do.
It was lucky, then, when he saw the lone girl with a soccer ball. Perfect. Someone not busy. He jogged over, thrilled at the prospect of new friends, hot girls, and something to do for at least an hour.
"Heeeey!" he said when he reached her, stopping. "Mind if I join?" He'd have hit on her, but he was too excited. This would have to come later.
